The Typology and Dialectology of Romani
Yaron Matras, Peter Bakker, Khristo Kyuchukov (Eds.)
This volume reflects developments in the typology and dialectology of Romani, in particular the four main groups: Balkan, Vlach, Central and Northern. It aims to point out features of Romani which are likely to be of interest to general linguists in the context of studies of universal properties of language. Topics covered include: the paradigmatic-inflectional dichotomy between Asian-based and European-based words; grammatical aspects which may define Romani as a typologically mixed language; and the drift from inflectional nominal case-marking to an analytic system of prepositions.
