The Ethiopian War, 1935-1941

No doubt the Battle of Adwa, with French & Russian support beefing up Ethiopian's military power, was the turning point that led to Mussolini's forces being defeated, but there were many red flags I noticed long before this. It's no wonder Mussolini wanted that alliance with Nazi Germany. An interesting book, and I came out of it knowing a lot more about a war I previously knew little about, and to fair Del Boca writes from both Italian and Ethiopian view points equally, so it wasn't all one sided, but part of me wished it had been written by someone like Anthony Beevor. Also, I was hoping for a scattering of photos in there somewhere, but to my disappointment there isn't a single one, only a few maps. One of the most eye-opening chapters being the massacre at Lake Ashangi, where thousands of soldiers of the Ethiopian Empire were killed with poison gas, but even that only lasted about 10 pages.
